A View from the Terraces
Edgware Town (0)0 – Harefield United (0)0

A piece of British football history was made tonight, watched by 100 plus spectators, as Edgware Town and Harefield United had to replay their league match from last September. The original match was ordered to be replayed after a refereeing error that denied Edgware an equalising goal from the penalty spot writes Gavin Shaw.

No such drama at the White Lion Ground last night as both sides cancelled each other out in this 1st versus 3rd clash; Harefield aggrieved to have had the 3pts they had initially won taken from them, arrived on the back of a winning run that had seen them close the gap between themselves and second placed Hertford, and with the possibility of bridging the gap to just 3pts on Edgware if they won all their games in hand and beat the 'Wares'.

Edgware still reeling from their first defeat in 23 matches last Saturday, were nearly caught straight from the kick off, as Harefield broke away and shot from distance, only the quick reflexes of Darren Bonefield, in the 'Wares' goal, kept Edgware from a nightmare start.

Joint managers Steve Newing and Del Deanus made several changes to the side that went down 1-3 at home to WGC at the weekend, with Bonefield replacing Rob Blackburne in goal, Vince Risopli replacing Phil Kane, and Greg Ngoyi stepping in for Ben Cain, Ben Hayden was brought in to replace the suspended Richard Morton.

As in the previous three meetings between these two sides the match was a close fought contest, with neither side giving away too much, and at the break there was not many talking points for supporters of either side.

Edgware started the second half brighter, and Johnny Moore had their best chance when he saw his shot crash against the underside of the bar and rebound back into play.

The lighting pace of 'Wares' striker Greg Ngoyi caused the 'Hares' defense problems, while at the other end Bonefield had to be alert to several Harefield efforts, though none of which really troubled him,
a draw was a fair result and in hindsight one that should have been recorded on the 5th September rather then six months later.

Despite dropping 5 points at home in the last two matches, Edgware will be happier then Harefield with the result, as should they win their 3 games in hand they would still be left 6pts behind Edgware. The 'Wares' see their lead cut to 8pts after second placed Hertford won last night, Edgware, however, have a game in hand on Hertford.
