Edgware will be the happier of the two sides after taking a point from this afternoon’s top of the table clash at Hertford writes Gavin Shaw.

Edgware had the better of the early exchanges, with Richard Morton coming close twice, but shooting high and wide on both occasions. Darren Bonefield was tested on occasion in the 'Wares' goal and really only made one mistake when he came out too far and Johnny Moore had to head off the line to save the day.

At the other end, Mark Virgo made a good save from Adam Wallace whose shot looked goal bound and Paul Marks thunderstruck volley was blocked on the line by a defender. But to be fair neither goalkeeper was overworked during the whole 90 minutes.

Steve Brady caused the home defence problems down the right flank, whilst Gavin Hart was creating openings down the left wing. Edgware finished the half strongly, in an evenly contested first period.

The second half saw the home side start to create more openings, but they could not breach the Edgware defence, who were superb all afternoon, ably marshalled by Captain Rory Smith.

The 'Wares' had several more efforts on goal, with Adam Wallace causing all sorts of problems for the home defenders, who resulted to hacking him down on several occasions.

Hertford came close with an effort in stoppage time, but a draw was a fair reflection of a very tight, competitive game, that was entertaining for the crowd of 182, the biggest in the SSML to date.

The result keeps Edgware 11pts clear at the top of the table, from second placed Hertford, both having played the same amount of matches. Edgware stretch their unbeaten league run to 22 matches.
