AFC Sudbury (0)1 – Edgware Town(0)0
Isthmian League Cup
Quarter Final
Tuesday 12th February 2008

Edgware were dumped out of the League Cup 1 – 0 last night by a well ordered AFC Sudbury team. Although dominating the game for the first 15 minutes and unlucky when Dave Taylor’s strike, from a well worked corner 12 minutes in was cleared off the line by Shane Wardley, the Wares could not keep up the pressure.

Densil Davidson made some telling runs down the right flank but the visitors attacks broke down against a well organised Sudbury back line. However, the Wares somewhat makeshift team, missing all their first choice midfield players, found it increasingly difficult to contain the promotion contenders.

It was more the Suffolk side’s poor finishing and the safe hands of Rob Blackburne that saw the teams go in at the break on level terms.

The second half was more of the same for the hapless Wares, under constant attack from the ‘yellows’ forwards. Edgware held out until just before the 70 minute mark when a good run on the right by Garath Heath found Sheridan Driver on the overlap and his cross was put away by leading scorer James Rowe.

No disgrace for the team who had the long journey home to lick their wounds and perhaps when we return at the end of the season, with a full strength team, we may exact our revenge.
