Arlesey Town (3)4 – Edgware Town (0)1
Ryman Isthmian League

Division One North
Tuesday 20th November 2007

A very poor performance by Edgware was severely punished by the free flowing football of their opponents tonight. In the first half hour the sides looked evenly matched but when Ashley Townsends corner was headed in by Ieuan Lewis on 32 minutes and then just 2 minutes later Brett Donnelly headed in a second the Wares seemed to go to pieces.

Every pass from the visitors seemed to go astray and to add further to their woes the home side were awarded a penalty when keeper Rob Blackburne was judged to have fouled Townsend, when he clearly pushed the ball away from his feet. However, Blackburne was given a yellow card by referee Chris Miller and Kaan Fehmi scored his teams third from the spot a few minutes before the end of the half.

Edgware were not much better at the start of the second period, their best effort saw Greg Ngoyi hit the ball into the side netting. The managers changed Fabio Valenti for Stuart Blackburne and Ben Cain came on for Adam Wallace and the Wares seemed to perk up, however, it was the home side who scored again when Donnelly beat Blackburne to make it 4 – 0 just past the hour.

Edgware did score a consolation goal with 72 minutes gone, Cain’s cross into the box was slotted home by Ngoyi and although the Wares pushed hard to the final whistle it was not going to be their night.

The managers need to go back to the drawing board before Saturdays clash with Brentwood Town at the White Lion and they then face Bury Town again at the White Lion on Tuesday night. We will also be returning to Arlesey on Tuesday 4th December to play them in the third round of the Isthmian League Cup.
