Edgware Town (2)3 – Great Wakering Rovers (1)1
Ryman Isthmian League
Division One North

Edgware answered their critics in the best way possible with a convincing 3 – 1 win against a tough Rovers side at the White Lion this afternoon writes Paul Gregory.

The game was really end to end stuff in the first half and Adam Wallace’s speculative header in the first moments set the tenure of the game, at the other end Sam Clark put James Foy through but his header was well wide then moments later Wallace forced Rovers keeper Louis Green into a good save.

It was 26 minutes in that Wares captain for the day, Johnny Moore, who now leaves the club to coach football in the States,  latched onto a Wallace pass and thumped the ball past Green for Edgware’s first.. They say  in football you need a little luck and the lady was shinning on the Wares this afternoon, just past the half hour James Foy hit a free kick from 10 yards outside the home area, the ball hit the inside of the goalpost and skidded straight across the goalmouth without crossing the line.

However their first goal seemed to settle the Wares and after Greg Ngoyi had headed against the post it was new signing Fergus Moore who made it 2 -0 sliding the ball between the advancing Greens legs on 36 minutes.

The Rovers were not out of it and they used their tall players in a number of set piece free kicks and it was after a series of corners that Elliot Gresham forced the ball past Rob Blackburne to get one back for the visitors 5 minutes before the break.

Wallace and Greg Ngoyi were plaguing the visitors defenders with Paul Marks and Johnny Moore ruling the midfield and throughout the game the large crowd of spectators were entertained to some excellent football.

It was again good work through the midfield that gave Ngoyi an opening and the speedy forward made no mistake beating Green to put the game beyond the visitors just before the hour mark.

A superb all round performance by Edgware and just the confidence boost they need as they go into their last 7 league games and a semi final in the Middlesex Charity Cup against Hillingdon Borough on 3rd April
