Edgware kept up their impressive start to the season with a resounding 5-0 win over Ilford at The White Lion Ground this afternoon. They have wasted no time in acclimatising themselves to a higher level of football after the clubs promotion in the summer from the Spartan League.

The 'Wares' set to work on Ilford from the kick off, playing fast attacking football that the Essex side found hard to contain, the deadlock was broken on 13 minutes when Johnny Moore picked out Stuart Blackburne who scored with a powerful header from close range.

Edgware were winning the midfield battles with Moore and captain Paul Marks creating opening's for Gavin Hart and Densil Davidson on either flank. They went further ahead when on 20 minutes Dennis Marharjan's floated cross was met by Marks who finished with aplomb from inside the area.

The Wares barely gave the Essex side time to regain their composure before adding a third just two minutes later, when Hart's ran deep to the byline crossed the ball back out to the centre where Johnny Moore volleyed a thunderous shot into the back of the net.

Ilford rarely troubled Rob Blackburne in the home goal, however they did have a couple of half chances, but the Edgware backline dealt with these easily. Seconds before the break, Greg Ngoyi bustled his way down the left into the box and scored with a fine finish as the 'Wares' went in at the break leading by 4-0.

A somewhat shell-shocked 'Foxes' side no doubt had been told to keep the score respectable, so when Marks added his second on 52 minutes, lobbing the keeper from close range, their worst fears appeared to be realized.

This however, was to be the end of the scoring as Edgware squandered some chances that should have put them further ahead, the 'Wares' forward line of Blackburne, Wallace, and then Ngoyi, proved more then a handful for Ilford all afternoon and on another day the trio could have each had a hat trick.

Despite the sweltering conditions the home side never stopped running and creating openings, as they provided a very entertaining afternoon for the home supporters.
