Edgware bounced back from their defeat by Eastbourne Borough in the FA Cup at the weekend by comfortably taking the scalp of Premier Division Staines Town  and earning a place in the third round of the League Cup at the White Lion this evening.

Ben Cain gave the home side the lead by heading in at the far post after Ben Hayden’s thunderous header had been turned out by James Courtnage in the visitors goal, a minute before the half hour mark.

Less than 10 minutes later Stuart Blackburne was brought down inside the area and Hayden stepped up to score from the penalty spot to give the Wares a 2 goal cushion at the end of a first half that was dominated by Edgware.

Johnny Moore added a third with a diving header within a minute of the restart getting on the end of AdilSalih’s cross for number goal number 3.

Staines offered very little in the way of chances, they did manage a late consolation goal when Dean Thomas beat Darren Bonfield volleying in from a free kick six minutes from the end. But, Edgware were well worthy of the win.
