Edgware were left to rue the fact that despite dominating
Tilbury for long periods they had to settle for a share of
spoils at the White Lion Ground on Saturday.
Edgware played some excellent free flowing football, however it
was their lack of finishing in front of goal that was to cost
them their 100% home record.
Densal Davidson was a constant threat down the left, whipping in
crosses that both Stuart Blackburne and Greg Ngoyi in the
Edgware forward line failed to capitalize on.
Tilbury offered little in the way of danger, with Ben Hayden a
tower of strength at the back, snubbing out any attack. Adil
Salih on his first start of the season was outstanding with his
running and passing on the right side of midfield, linking up
well with Steve Brady, who was also making a first start since a
return from injury.
It appeared only a matter of time before Edgware would take the
lead, however on the stroke of half time, the visitors took a
shock lead, the home defense had a momentarily lack of
concentration which allowed Tilbury space to put in a cross
which was met by the head of Stuart Roberts who’s deft header
gave keeper Rob Blackburne no chance.
Edgware were somewhat stunned to be going into the interval a
goal down having played some of their best football of the
campaign to date.
The second period saw Edgware continue to pressurise as they
went in search of an equalising goal; and were duly rewarded on
57 minutes, Ngoyi turned the Tilbury defense inside the box, and
set up Stuart Blackburne who buried his shot from close range to
restore parity.
As Edgware went in search of the win both Stuart Blackburne and
Greg Ngoyi had good calls for a penalty turned down, however Mr
James the referee was having none of it.
Late in the match substitute Ben Cain had a chance to seal the
match but his shot lacked any real power and was easily saved by
Agu in the visitors goal.
Tilbury caused a stir when they had a breakaway attack, but they
spurned the chance to punish the home side.
With the final whistle Edgware were left to reflect on a fine
performance, however, one that saw them drop two home points on
a day when they deserved all three.
Edgware are back in action on Tuesday night when the visit
