Despite a summer of turmoil off the field, Edgware have started newly promoted life in the Ryman league like ducks to water.

Last night at the White Lion Ground, Edgware won their second match in four days with a performance that says the 'Wares' are not just in this division to make up the numbers.

In what was a closely fought contest Edgware played attacking football with the heavy drizzle helping to give extra zip to the superb playing surface.

Dennis Maharjan who opened his account with two goals at Potters Bar last Saturday, created a number of openings and linked up well with Densal Davidson on the right flank, one such move resulted in Edgware coming very close to breaking the deadlock. Wingate were proving a handful, but Junior Lewis at the heart of Edgware's defence held the backline admirably, and played some exquisite long passes to play Edgware out of trouble.

A rasping shot from Marharjan nearly opened the scoring for the 'Wares' his shot just going wide of the far post, at the other end Rob Blackburne had to be alert to a Wingate free kick which only just skimmed past his far post.

The match was a very even affair but it was to be the 'Wares' who would break the deadlock, more good work down the right from Davidson who fed the ball to Maharjan, the stocky midfielders cross was met by the head of striker Stuart Blackburne to send the ball over a despairing Wingate keeper on 22 minutes.

Edgware appeared to be in the ascendancy, and with Paul Marks and Johnny Moore contesting every ball at the heart of the Edgware midfield, and the wing play of Davidson and Gavin Hart, Edgware were providing some very entertaining football for the spectators.

Wingate however were no slouches and on 39 minutes the home side were stunned when Joe O'Brian stuck what can only be described as a thunderbolt of a shot from distance leaving Blackburne rooted to his line, to bring the scores level Ben Hayden was booked just before the break for the home side, as things got a little heated just before the interval.

The second period was more of the same, fast attacking football from both sides, Wingate sounded out some early warnings coming close on a couple of occasions, however, Edgware limited them to mainly long range efforts.

The constant running though the middle by Adam Wallace was a thorn in Wingate's side; Wallace won the 'Wares' several free kicks as the home side went in search of the winning goal.

Joint managers Steve Newing and Del Deanus decided on making chances, replacing the impressive Davidson with striker Greg Ngoyi and Adam Wallace going off for new signing Ricky White; the substitutions would prove to be a a masterstroke, by the duo, as White added extra metal down the right flank and Greg 'the beast' Ngoyi terrorised the Wingate defenders.

A free kick by White just shaved the Wingate far post, however on 79 minutes the match was won when Ngoyi appeared to be brought down just outside the area, instead of appealing the burly striker played on and put the ball past an advancing keeper, just four minutes after coming on as substitute, to the delight of the whole Edgware team who celebrated en masse.

Wingate went down to ten men in the closing stages, after their captain was shown a red for a second bookable offence, the 'Wares' saw out the closing moments looking for a further goal, but it was not needed as Edgware took maximum points for the second successive match.

Edgware are now one of only four clubs in the Ryman Div 1 North who have a 100% record after two matches, and the 'Wares' sit pretty in 4th place!

Edgware are in action at the White Lion again on Saturday when they host Ilford.
